We have recently added our complete 24mm nylon multi-plait mooring strop assembly to the Boat Gear Direct website, making it easier for boat owners to order the complete arrangement online.
The components are held in stock, but each assembly is made in-house to order by our own riggers. This means we can offer standard 2m, 3m and 4m versions while also making adjustments or producing alternative arrangements to suit your boat and existing mooring.
If you are unsure what you need, please call us. We would rather speak to you and help establish the correct arrangement before it is made.
A Complete Mooring Strop, Ready for Your Boat

This is a complete, made-up mooring strop designed to connect a suitable boat to a permanent mooring buoy.
Rather than buying the rope, thimble, shackle, tether, protective sleeves and pick-up buoy separately, the complete arrangement is professionally spliced, assembled and supplied ready for its intended mooring application.
It is particularly useful for boat owners replacing an existing mooring strop, preparing a new buoy mooring or wanting a professionally made assembly without having to splice and assemble the individual components themselves.
What Is Included?
The main mooring line is manufactured from 24mm nylon multi-plait rope and is available in standard lengths of 2m, 3m or 4m.
The vessel end has an approximately 6-inch, or 150mm, protected soft eye. This can be brought aboard and secured through a suitable fairlead, over a bow roller or around an appropriately sized forward cleat.
The mooring-buoy end has a professionally spliced hard eye fitted with a thimble and screw-pin bow shackle for connection to a suitable attachment point on the buoy.
Protective wear sleeves are fitted around the principal contact areas, helping to protect the rope where it bears against the boat or mooring hardware.
A 10mm three-strand nylon tether connects the main strop to an inflated pick-up buoy. The buoy has a top handle and provides approximately 4kg of buoyancy, making the strop easier to locate and recover as you approach the mooring.
Why Use Nylon Multi-Plait Rope?
Nylon is commonly used for mooring lines because its natural elasticity helps absorb changes in load caused by wind, tide, wash and movement of the boat.
The multi-plait construction is flexible, easy to handle and suitable for professional splicing. It also avoids the cockling and deformation that can affect three-strand rope when a boat repeatedly rotates around a swinging mooring.
Made In-House to Order

Although this product has only recently been added to the Boat Gear Direct website, our riggers have been making mooring strop assemblies for customers for many years.
Every assembly is made in-house to order, using stocked components, with a standard manufacturing lead time of approximately five working days.
The standard online product covers the most commonly requested arrangement, but we know that boats, buoys and existing mooring systems are not all the same.
Depending on your requirements, we can discuss variations including:
- Alternative main-line lengths
- Different rope diameters or constructions
- Larger or smaller soft eyes
- Alternative thimbles, shackles or connection arrangements
- Additional or extended wear protection
- Different tether lengths
- Alternative pick-up buoys
- Additional mooring chain, shackles, swivels, anchors or sinkers
Not Sure Which Version You Need?
If you are replacing an existing strop, it is helpful to check the finished length, rope diameter, eye size and connection hardware before ordering.
You can send us the measurements and photographs of your current arrangement, or simply pick up the phone and talk it through with us.
We love a phone call, and discussing the arrangement before manufacture can prevent problems with incorrect lengths, unsuitable eye dimensions or mismatched connection hardware.
The standard 2m, 3m and 4m assemblies can now be ordered through the Boat Gear Direct website. For adjustments, alternative versions or help choosing the right arrangement, please contact us before placing your order.
Not for lifting. This product is designed solely for marine mooring applications.
