Rope and buoy mooring set

EYE Marine Buoy Rope Set Spliced

Personal Mooring Buoy with Full-Length Wear Sleeve & Soft Eye – Built for Safer Boating

If you’re a boater who moors your vessel in tidal waters, you’ll know how critical it is to use the right equipment — gear that’s safe for your boat, reliable in harsh conditions, and designed to last. At EYE, we provide custom rope and buoy solutions tailored to individual needs, whether you’re mooring in a marina, tidal river, or private mooring field.

One of our recent bespoke builds was for a private boat owner who wanted a safer, non-damaging mooring buoy setup. Here’s what we made – and why it’s different.

Built for Practical Boating: What’s in the Setup?

This custom mooring solution includes:

  • Unsinkable foam-filled PVC mooring buoy – Tough, lightweight, and built to float no matter what.
  • MultiPlait 8-strand sinking rope – Ideal for mooring as it sinks below the surface, reducing the risk of fouling propellers or tangling with other lines.
  • Full-length protective wear sleeve – Shielding the rope from seabed abrasion during low tides, essential in tidal moorings or where the rope may lie across rough ground.
  • Galvanised steel thimble splice (bottom end) – A solid connection point for attaching to ground chains, shackles or mooring blocks.
  • Soft eye splice (top end) – A 300mm rope loop formed without any metal hardware, offering a gentle connection point to protect the hull of your boat.

Why Use a Soft Eye Instead of Steel?

Steel is strong – but it can be harsh on boats. When a vessel rises over a buoy in choppy conditions or at high tide, traditional steel fittings can scrape or impact the hull. That’s why we’ve swapped the usual metal hardware for a soft eye splice.

This rope-based loop is just as strong but won’t mark, dent or damage your boat. It’s a popular choice for boaters who care about their vessel’s condition – especially in fibreglass or wooden hull boats.

Full-Length Wear Protection

Unlike many off-the-shelf setups, we’ve applied a complete wear sleeve across the entire line. Why? Because with sinking ropes, large portions of the line can end up resting on the seabed, especially at low tide. The wear sleeve protects the rope from abrasion, chafing, and marine growth, extending its service life and reducing the need for costly replacements.

Ideal for Private Moorings & Marinas

This setup is perfect for:

  • Personal boat moorings in estuaries, rivers or tidal areas
  • Marina owners looking to offer safer, boat-friendly buoy connections
  • Leisure craft and yacht owners who want to avoid damage from metal components
  • Tenders or secondary vessels moored alongside primary boats or pontoons

Whether you’re tying off a RIB, dayboat or yacht, this mooring solution is built for durability and peace of mind.

Designed for Real Use by Real Boaters

This isn’t a generic setup. It’s a custom-made solution for a private boat owner who values:

  • Hull protection
  • Long-lasting rope
  • Reduced wear from the seabed
  • Safer, cleaner mooring practices

And because it’s built using high-grade components and marine-grade materials, it’s equally suitable for everyday use or extended periods unattended.
